Curriculum

Prof. ELENA TORRIERI is Associate Professor in Food Science and Technology at the Department of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Naples Federico II. She has lectured in Food Packaging at the master’s degree in Food Science and Technology of the University of Naples Federico II. She is responsible of the quality assurance of the Food Science and Technology Courses (bachelor and master degree) of the Department of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Naples Federico II. She is member of the Task Force on Industria 4.0 of the University of Naples Federico II. Since 2015, she is member of the research committee of the Department of Agricultural Sciences. She is member of the editorial board of the journal Annals of Food Processing and Preservation. She is member of the director board of the Italian Scientific Group of Food Packaging (GSICA), and member of the Italian Society of Food Science and Technology (SISTAL). Her research activities are focused on the design of food packaging and estimation/prediction of food shelf life. The main topics are: (i) Development of biopolymer film/coating for food packaging application; (ii) Design a modified atmosphere package for fresh fruit and vegetable; (iii) Study the effect of innovative packaging technology on food shelf-life. Research activity is/was carried out with several international collaborations from Ireland, France, Spain, Israel, UK, Germany, and Mexico. She is/was involved in several national and European projects focused on Food packaging and shelf-life of food as work package lead. She was PI for the CAISIAL of the project “ENBED- Environmental benefits through the decrease of food products loss and waste” CIP-EIP-Eco- Innovation-2009. She is author of 36 publications in international peer reviewed journals with IF (h-index 15; number of citation: 563). She was invited speaker at Nanotech, France (2018), SLIM for young, 7th Shelf Life International Meeting, Italy (2015). She was member of the organizing committee of the 15th Workshop of “Developments in the Italian PhD”, Italy (2016) and 3th SLIM-Shelf Life International Meeting, Italy (2008). Currently, she is chair of the 9th Shelf Life International meeting that will be held in Naples in 2019.

Main tasks

Elena Torrieri will act as Technical & Scientific Coordinator. Her research specialises in the field of Food Processing and Preservation with a deep knowledge in new packaging material for food shelf life extension and modelling of deterioration kinetic to properly predict food shelf life.
