Carole Tonello-Samson is the Commercial & Applications Director for Hiperbaric, the world leader in designing, manufacturing, and marketing High Pressure Processing (HPP) industrial machines for food. Tonello-Samson has worked for the company since 2003 and currently sits on the company’s board of directors.
Tonello-Samson has more than 25 years of experience in the HPP field and is the head of Hiperbaric’s global scientific and technological support for HPP users. She is the food science and commercial coordinator for Hiperbaric R&D projects, supported by the European Commission, and also leads Hiperbaric’s business development and applications Departments.
Prior to Hiperbaric, Tonello-Samson, worked for HPP R&D companies in France as an industrial researcher with emphasis in HPP for food. While in France, Tonello-Samson studied biochemistry and food technology. In 1996, she obtained a PhD in food science on the effects of HPP on inactivation of microorganisms. Tonello-Samson is the author and co-author of more than 20 scientific articles and seven book chapters on High Pressure Processing food applications and equipment.
Tonello-Samson has been on the Executive Committee of the Non-thermal Processing Division (NPD) of the Institute of Food Technology (IFT) since 2007. She has held various positions at NPD, including Member-at-Large, Secretary, and Chair in 2012-2013. Tonello-Samson was recognized as the IFT NPD “Outstanding Volunteer” in 2016 and received the “Outstanding Service Award” in 2019. In 2019, she was also awarded the “Innovation and Inspiration Honor” of the Women’s Alliance Network Red Circle of the Food Processing Suppliers Association (FPSA).
